The 2nd Oriental Forum on Elderly Education Successfully Held Online

        At 4:00 p.m. of October 16th, 2020 (Beijing Time), the 2nd Oriental Forum on Elderly Education was successfully held online. The forum, themed by “Digital Technology, Artificial Intelligence and U3As”, set its main venue at Qinzhou Academy of Shanghai University for The Elderly. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a video conferencing software was utilized to connect with other experts at home and abroad.
       Leaders and Experts joining the meeting at site and online are:

       There are also many other experts from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Germany, Russia, Singapore and Colombia, etc.
        Zhang Xiaolin expressed warm congratulations on the successful opening of the forum on behalf of CAUA. He said the theme of this forum is very meaningful, especially during the pandemic. At this time when mankind faces common challenges, only by enhancing cooperation can we finally win.
       Vellas also gave a congratulatory address and delivered a keynote report entitled “Digital Technology, International Cooperation and the U3As”.He stressed the key role of U3As in helping senior citizens to learn digital technology and protect them from ageing and disease.
       Then three Chinese and three foreign experts respectively delivered speeches from different perspectives of relationship between “digital technology, artificial intelligence” and “U3As”. They are Shen Hong’s academic report of “Intelligentization and U3As”, Maria’s “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Impact on the Life of the Elderly”, Wang Weidong’s “Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on U3As”, Carlos’ “U3As and Virtual Reality”, Wang Younong’s “U3As: Turning Traditional Elders into Digital Elders”, Olga’s Virtual Spaces in U3As to Become More Human, Accessible and Socially Responsible”.
       Afterwards, participants watched a video of the Smart Classrooms at Qinzhou Academy of Shanghai University for the Elderly. Through the immersive learning at the five smart classrooms (High-Tech Island, Health-Maintaining Island, Finance Island, Modern Life Island, Joy-Sharing Island), the elderly will learn to adapt well to the modern life.
       Ni Minjing delivered a keynote report entitled “Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and the Development of Elderly Education in Shanghai”. In the report, he shared the achievements of elderly education in Shanghai and put forward his thoughts on how to deal with the new challenges brought by digital technology.
       Lin Yuanhe made concluding remarks. He expressed congratulations on the successful opening of the forum and high praise for the brilliant academic reports. He said the forum marked the U3As worldwide entering a digital-technology era.  and confirms the historical mission and responsibility of the global university for the aged.
       At last, Ma Xianguo declared the meeting closed in the warm applause of the on-site and online participants!
