Covid19 pandemic will increase the number of older people using digital technology. Senior citizens may have difficulties to activities of life as usual. They need to find adaptation and new ways of life. The U3As Universities for the Elderly will play a new role to reach these new expectations from seniors. They will need to adapt to train seniors to digital technology in particular true to retired living alone. International cooperation will play a great role to disseminate the best practices on this new mission for U3As. Universities for the elderly will not be still the house of seniors for social activities, culture, sport and fun, it will be the place for education for all the life focusing on specific training on digital technologies. It will be the place to learn for senior adaptation to artificial intelligence. AIUTA the International Association of the University of Third Age will help all U3As and seniors to reach this new challenges providing international cooperation on education and research.

*U3As Objective to Digital technologies
Covid19 pandemic increase the number of older people using digital technology. Most of seniors are alone in their home during the pandemic time in a lot of countries. Senior citizens may have difficulties to do the usual activities of life. Some of them become ill and depressive. A large number of them are not still in capacity to use digital connectivity in a correct and productive way.

Seniors need to find adaptation and new ways of life. The U3As Universities for the Elderly will play a new role to reach these new expectations from seniors. They have the capacity to implement new training programs on digital technology to train seniors.

*U3As Digital training strategies
Universities for the elderly are the house of seniors for social activities, culture, sport and fun. But now it is not enough. U3As need to reach new expectations to upgrade elderly education for all the life focusing on specific training on digital technologies. U3as will be the place to learn for senior adaptation to artificial intelligence. To reach this objective, the University of Third Age need to adapt and set up scientific research programs on artificial intelligence for elderly.
This is a great challenge. An important goal will be to adapt artificial intelligence to all seniors including the oldest. Artificial intelligence will need to be adapted to seniors that cannot move and must stay at home.

The University of Third Age requests professors and young specialists from different disciplines to teach and deliver lectures, using classrooms and amphitheaters, equipment to teach training programs and IT facilities. For this reason U3As are the best tool to provide specific seniors programs on digital connectivity.

The digital training strategy is to reach all seniors including the oldest :
  • Specific training programs to seniors in capacity to attend class : These programs will be deliver in the U3As using IT facilities to mix technical and practical digital connectivity and new technologies.
  • Specific training programs to seniors on situation of handicap : Health condition cannot allow these seniors to move to the U3As to attend classes. It is a need to reach them and train them to digital connectivity. U3As must organise “Mobile Digital Education Teams” to reach the oldest seniors, providing digital facilities to be connected on new technologies. These relevant tools will benefit to senior students to fight against major illnesses affecting the elderly like Alzheimer’s.
*U3As Digital inter-cultural programs
