On May 9-10, 2019, the Second “Oriental Land” Summit Forum on Elderly Education (which is a seminar for promoting the coordinated development of regional elderly education) was held in Shanghai “Oriental Land” resort. The specific goals of the forum are as follows:

(1) To build a platform for regional cooperation and development.

The theme of this forum is “actively promoting the regional development of elderly education through innovation and cooperation”. In the first part of the forum (for keynote speeches), Ni Minjing (Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission), Lu Jianjie (Consultant to the Academic Committee of China Association of Universities for the Aged), and Sun Ping (Vice-President of Guangdong Open University) shared their practical observation and academic ideas concerning elderly education. Their respective speech covered the topics of “the coordinated development of elderly education in the context of the integration of the Yangtze River Delta”, “the current situation and future prospects of diversified development of elderly education in the Yangtze River Delta”, and “the promotion of the coordinated development of elderly education in Guangdong---Hong Kong---Macau Greater Bay Area”.

In the second part of the forum (for group discussions), the participants were divided into three groups. They warmly discussed the issues of “the integrated development of elderly education in the Yangtze River Delta”, “the way to promote the coordinated regional development of elderly education”, and “the joint development and sharing of the resources of the elderly education”. Professor Ye Zhonghai made a summary of the discussions.

At the meeting, a ceremony was held for signing the “The Agreement of Cooperation in Elderly Education in the Yangtze River Delta”. Thus, a new platform for “jointly promoting the coordinated development of elderly education in Shanghai Municipality, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province and Anhui Province” was successfully established.

(2) To take new measures to promote the development of elderly education.

——— To complete the editing and publishing of the Green Paper on China’s Elderly Education in 2018 (trial version);
——— To carry out cooperation in elderly education research;
——— To provide an exchange platform for young scholars engaged in elderly education;
——— To complete the editing and publishing of the relevant new teaching materials.

(3) To sum up the experiences of elderly education in Shanghai.

Elderly education in Shanghai has achieved positive results in “system building”, “resource integration”, and “service upgrading”. It has already embarked on a road of healthy development, which is characterized by “participation by all parties”, “steady progress”, “open integration”, and “education for the people”. At present, our elderly education is moving towards a new direction of development. We hope this education will be managed, in future, in a way that is more broad and extensive, more flexible and diverse, more distinctive and characteristic, and more standardized and orderly.
